Michael C. Barefield was born December 26, 1962 in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi, to Stone and Bonnie Barefield. After graduating from Hattiesburg High School in 1981, Michael earned his undergraduate degree in Paralegal Studies from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in 1985, and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Law School in 1987. Thereafter, Michael became licensed to practice law in the Stae and Federal Courts in Mississippi in 1988.
After a brief internship with the Mississippi Attorney General, Michael returned to Hattiesburg to practice civil litigation until 1996. He then practiced law for 3 years in Jackson, Mississippi and later for 8 years on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, before returning to his hometown, where he continues to practice law in the areas of civil litigation, family and domestic law, workers’ compensation, personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, business and general practice.
Michael was one of the youngest members ever to serve on the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions, a board of the Mississippi Supreme Court in charge of administering the Bar Exam and licensing prospective attorneys. Michael was in charge of writing a grading numerous portions of the Mississippi Bar Exam over a period of 14 years, from 1990 until 2004.
Since July, 2011, Michael has been an Adjunct Legal Instructor in the Paralegal Program at Antonelli College in Hattiesburg.
