Insurance Bad Faith- $3,347,000.00
Oct 21, 1999OUTCOME: Seven figure settlement before trial.
[Orange County- Update] Senior Partner, Lisa M. Wilson, of Jackson & Wilson, settles insurance bad faith case for $3,347,000.00. Case Profile- Lisa’s client was a young man who sustained serious in ... juries and head trauma after being involved in a head-on collision. Two trucks had been racing on a narrow road directly towards our client who was traveling in the opposite direction. The two responsible drivers were inadequately insured. Despite our client’s severe injuries and need for treatment, his own insurance company came up with one excuse or another to refuse paying his $30,000.00 underinsured motorist coverage limits. Lisa demanded arbitration with the insurance company and ultimately received an arbitration award of $865,000.00 in favor of her client. Lisa then filed a first party bad faith lawsuit against our client's own insurance company for failing to step up and take care of their insured. During a mediation prior to trial, Lisa reached a settlement with the insurance company resulting in an additional payment of $2,500,000.00. This was the very same insurance company which, a year earlier, refused to pay her client $30,000.00. The total payout was $3,347,000.00.
