N/AOUTCOME: $4.6 Million
From Thaai Walker, Chronicle East Bay Bureau, SF Gate: "An Antioch jewelry store owner and his wife have been awarded $4.6 million in their civil lawsuit against a group of men accused of kidnapping ... the woman from her home in 1993. Ruth Mayer was awarded $3 million by a Contra Costa County Superior Court jury on Tuesday for emotional distress suffered during the abduction, said attorney Curtis Johnson. Her husband, Gene, was awarded $1.5 million in the same ruling. The couple was also granted an additional $61,000 for damages to their home and for medical bills, Johnson said. The couple was "elated by the decision," he said. Ruth Mayer was abducted at gunpoint by two men from the couple's Antioch home on Dec. 21, 1993."
