Don't hire the wrong attorney for the job

I sent an email directly to Attorney Mr. Reviere in Jackson, TN, because he is known as a good mediator. I was asking for his assistance regarding TN/MS probate mediation. He politely told me that he did not practice probate law. With my knowledge, he circulated my request among his associates at... Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell PLC. Mr. Charles Exum promptly called me, introducing himself as an attorney practicing "real estate law." (I would learn later that his background is primarily in bankruptcy law.) He expressed what I thought was a "genuine" interest in representing me. However, hring Mr. Exum was a waste of time and money. WORD TO THE WISE: Never hire an attorney who initiates the contact with you. And never hire an attorney who talks about what he "thinks" regarding a matter but does not examine the law and the evidence. In my opinion, Mr. Exum is a typical attorney. We have all heard it said that only say a fool represents himself in court. And I would add to that a fool hires the wrong attorney for the job. That said, finding a good attorney in a rural area is next to impossible. Attorneys in small towns rarely specialize. After about two months of no progress, I terminated my agreement with Mr. Exum.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
