Asylum
May 17, 2017OUTCOME: Granted
The C.R. family fled gang persecution and death threats in their home country of El Salvador. They sought asylum together in the U.S., but their cases were split up in three different parts of the coun ... try, and a previous attorney gave them bad information. Attorney Barraza took over their cases, joined them all together in Chicago Immigration Court, and began fighting to compile the strongest possible case. At trial, the government attorney tried hard to discredit the Respondents’ testimony. The Judge also was skeptical of the case, and Attorney Barraza was prepared to continue the trial for an additional day. However, he had presented clear, cohesive, and convincing evidence, both from the expert witness and the victims’ own testimony. After consideration, the Judge approved the entire family’s asylum claim. Now they are able to live in the U.S. without fear of being returned to the dangers of their home country and are looking forward to receiving their residency and eventually U.S. citizenship.
