In winter of 2013 I hired Barrett Painter paying almost $3000 and a year+ later he has done almost Nothing. Originally he was hired for a family court matter to which Dept. of Children's Services was involved. He asked for $1500 for estimated services for the case. The only service he provided was to tell the family to do exactly what DCS asked of us. DCS had already stated what they wanted for FREE so $1500 seems rather expensive to me. This case is closed due to the allegations were easily proved false and I complied with DCS requests. Early 2014 I met with attorney Painter to file for Divorce and paid him $800 to begin the "uncontested divorce" about 3 weeks later I finally got a message to come to his office to sign divorce papers however as of today my spouse still has not been served with a copy of the decree. Am I wrong for feeling like I have been charged for services this attorney did not provide as promised? Is this the normal rate attorneys charge their clients to do very little if any work? does it usually take 9 months for the respondent to be officially served divorce papers?
Alan Beard, Criminal defense Attorney
Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community
I endorse this lawyer. I have worked opposite Barrett on numerous cases through the years. He is a steady, conscientious attorney with a great work ethic and the experience to steer a case to the best result possible for his clients. He's a nice guy with a strong ethical approach to practicing law, but a skillful, tireless advocate in the courtroom. I would not hesitate to hire Barrett myself if I needed an attorney.
