Michael A. Ransom is an Attorney with Safford Motley PLC where his practice focuses on all aspects of the entertainment industry, including intellectual property rights, transactional negotiation and drafting, and litigation. Among the numerous clients Michael has represented are mega touring and recording artists, major software companies, emerging singer/songwriters, and everyone in between. As a former full-time musician, Michael understands the issues that his clients face, and his approach to each representation centers around providing practical, real world solutions. Prior to joining Safford Motley, Michael worked for a number of years as an Associate with King & Ballow handling litigation matters for numerous high profile clients in the entertainment industry, and also formerly worked with Leavens, Strand & Glover representing a broad range of clients in entertainment and intellectual property matters.
Michael earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee and while in school served as the President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, Staff Editor for Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law, and was a member of the inaugural team sent to compete in the BMI Entertainment Moot Court Competition in New York City. In addition, Michael was part of Trademark and Business Law Clinics at UT Law, and was awarded for his work with the Distinguished Student Attorney Award and Transactional Clinic Student Attorney Award, as well as earning other recognitions for the highest grade in a particular course and for providing nearly 300 pro bono hours during the course of law school.
When out of the office, Michael continues to perform with his band “The Ransom Notes” and enjoys working with rescue dogs, particularly German Shepherds.
