William Mayfield was born and raised in the Green Hills area of Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Lipscomb University for two years on a golf and academic scholarship before receiving his BA in Journalism and law degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received the University of Tennessee CALI Award in Contract Drafting for achieving the top grade in his class. After his first year in law school, William served as a summer intern for the Nashville Predators Legal Department where he worked on contracts and researched legal issues for the organization. During his second and third years in law school, William served as a legal intern at the Adams Law Firm, a general practice firm, where he had the opportunity to sit 2nd chair in multiple trials, depositions, and mediations. William is also on the Board of the Nashville Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Division.
William and his wife Allyson began dating while in high school at Brentwood Academy. They attend services at Brentwood Baptist Church and are involved with the Tennessee Chapter of the ALS Association. William is also a strong advocate for providing opportunities for underprivileged children to play sports. He coaches AAU basketball for underprivileged children and flag football through Preston Taylor Ministries. While in law school, William started the middle school and high school golf programs at Concord Christian School, leading the middle school golf program to state championships in their second and third year. He also served as a high school basketball coach at the school during that time.
William enjoys playing golf, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, softball, flag football, and pretty much anything else that resembles a sport. He is a diehard University of Tennessee, Nashville Predators, and Chicago Cubs fan and has attended over 150 Tennessee football games in 20 different stadiums. In 2017, he served as an assistant editor for the Athlon Sports College Football National Preview Magazine and has written many published articles for and the Tennessee Basketball Newsletter.
