James Nicholas Clemmons

My practice focuses on family law, criminal defense, and civil litigation.  I understand that my clients are often facing exceedingly difficult and stressful situations, whether it be divorce, custody issues, or serious criminal charges.  Above all, I strive to advise, stand beside, and relentlessly advocate for my clients to attain the best possible outcome of their case.  I am a firm believer in our justice system and the concept that justice is and should be, blind to demographics, income level, personal backgrounds, etc.    

I was born and raised in the great city of Lebanon, Tennessee, and am proud to be practicing law in my hometown.  I attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, before attending law school at the Nashville School of Law.  My general practice area is the greater Middle Tennessee area, including Wilson, Davidson, Rutherford, Smith, Trousdale, Sumner, Macon, DeKalb, Cannon and Williamson counties.  

While attending law school, I worked in paralegal/law clerk capacities for a number of esteemed attorneys who practiced civil litigation, criminal defense, and family law.  From these attorneys, I learned not only the ins and outs of these practice areas, but also how an attorney should treat their clients, judges and court staff, and other attorneys.   

I was privileged to be selected to serve a one-year clerkship as the Judicial Law Clerk to Chancellor Howard W. Wilson of the 15th Judicial District, immediately following taking the Tennessee Bar Examination.  In this position, I was responsible for reviewing pleadings and motions for compliance with Tennessee law, conducting legal research, and extensive legal writing of opinions and orders issued by the Court.  I was also able to witness a significant amount of actual courtroom trial practice while serving in this capacity.
