April believes in giving back to the community and has volunteered at the Hospice Home Suncoast Chapter and mentored at the Child Saving Institute for troubled teens. She has served for five years on the Ak-Sar-Ben Buyers Club executive board responsible for fundraising for kids in 4-H, and has also served on the Autism Action Partnership Guild to raise funds for programs giving assistance to children with disabilities. In law school, April learned mediation skills under the program guidance of the Nebraska Office of Dispute Resolution and has put her skills to work representing clients in mediation and volunteering as a mediator in Victim-Offender Mediations helping victims heal. She has also mediated Special Education Mediations where parents have an opportunity to address issues directly with the school board.
