John Jameson Givens

John J. Givens is a trial lawyer with The Cochran Firm. His practice focuses exclusively on plaintiff civil litigation with a concentration in the areas of commercial motor vehicle litigation, products liability litigation and complex catastrophic personal injury litigation.

John was the youngest lawyer in America to receive a jury verdict of more than one million dollars on behalf of his client, a verdict he obtained at age 26. More recently, with trial quickly approaching, John and his trial team reached a record 150 million dollars settlement in a catastrophic injury/wrongful death case for a family that were victims of the dangerous practices of a national motor carrier (18-wheeler transportation company).

In addition to individual incident jury trials, John has served as a member of Bellwether trial teams on behalf of plaintiffs in mass actions, including the C8 litigation against DuPont that resulted in a $ million-dollar settlement for the Plaintiffs after several successful jury verdicts. John was a key member of the trial team seeking recovery from and remediation of the harms caused by opioid distributors and manufacturers for the State of Nevada and many of the counties and cities within the state. John was tasked with leading the efforts to find, develop, support, defend and present liability and damage expert witnesses for the State of Nevada as well as cross-examining and excluding those experts identified by the defendants in that action. To this point, thanks in large part to the steadfast efforts of the entire trial team (including the Attorney General of Nevada) the State of Nevada has reached settlements totally over 1.1 billion dollars.

John is licensed to practice law in the state of Alabama and Florida and is admitted to practice in all Alabama and Florida state courts as well as many federal courts around the nation.
