Expungement
Nov 18, 2013OUTCOME: PETITION GRANTED
An individual (young man in his early 20's) was hired on for a good job in his desired field. He answered all questions in the interview and job application truthfully: he had never been "convicted" of ... a crime. However, after about eight weeks on the job, security came up to him in the middle of the work day, gave him a box and told him to clean out his desk. Then they escorted him out to the parking lot, where they gave him his notice of termination. Why? Because a criminal background check showed record of arrest for a misdemeanor. Even though this charge was eventually dismissed, the record of arrest was still available to the public. This record of arrest, even though there was never a finding of guilt, was enough for this young man to lose his job. Even worse, his first lasting impression he left at a reputable firm in his desired career industry is now the image of him being escorted out of the office by security. He came to us, and we discovered that he was indeed eligible for an expungement. We pursued this for him, and were able to successfully clear every trace of the incident from his record forever. Now, this unfortunate and embarrassing incident is truly in his past.
