When they asked their agent for a copy ... of the termite inspection report, the agent then told them she actually did not get it done, and had just said it was was completed on the day she decided to NOT order one. It was a bizarre set of facts, but that is what happened. The case settled after the lawsuit was filed and it was clear from the evidence produced that the agent had lied to her clients.

A new car dealership sold our client a car and charged her almost $8,000 for “dealer-installed options” that did not exist. When she went back to the dealership and asked what the charges were for, th ... e general manager told her that if she did not like the payments she had to make for it, she could stop paying it and they would repossess the vehicle. She hired Whitney, LLP to represent her. After we sent our letter of representation, the dealership offered $2,000. After filing the lawsuit and claiming violation of Maryland’s Consumer Protection Act as well as Fraud, we took the deposition of the salesman, finance manager and general manager. The case then settled for $55,000, including payment of our attorney’s fees.

Bed Bug Infestation Verdict

On May 29, 2013, an Anne Arundel County jury returned an $800,000 verdict in favor of our client. The jury agreed with us that the landlord, Cornelius J. Barrett and West Street Partners, deserved to b ... e punished when they awarded $650,000 in punitive damages. Our client was not informed at the time she leased the apartment that there was an open code violation for a bed bug infestation at the residence. Even worse, after our client complained to local authorities about the infestation, she was illegally evicted and her possessions tossed into the street. This case was picked up internationally and has done much to spread awareness to consumers that they have legal rights when it comes to bed bugs.
