The warrant will stay active until something's done about it. It won't just go away after a certain amount of time.

It means that this person will pretty much serve all 10 years. This person isn't going to be eligible for parole or good time in prison.

You really, really, really need to speak to a criminal defense attorney in your area and see what can be done. That warrant isn't going away.
