Frederick Alexander Erben

Frederick A. Erben has been a cornerstone of Alabama’s legal community for nearly 50 years. Born and raised in Birmingham, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Business and earned his Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1966. That same year, he began his legal career with Beddow & Beddow, a firm renowned for its excellence in criminal defense and its legacy of producing circuit judges and bar association leaders.

Now the senior partner of Beddow, Erben, Bowen & Wales, P.C., Mr. Erben has played a pivotal role in broadening the firm’s practice to include family law and civil litigation, while continuing its tradition of excellence in criminal defense. His work on groundbreaking cases has significantly influenced Alabama law, particularly in criminal and domestic relations matters.

Mr. Erben’s dedication extends beyond the courtroom through active involvement in the Alabama and Birmingham Bar Associations. His service on the Grievance and Ethics Committee and the Alabama State Bar Fee Arbitration Committee underscores his commitment to ethical practice and the betterment of the legal profession.
