Marvin Ira Honig

Following graduation from Albany Law School in 1963 I started to practice in Troy, New York, first as an associate with an attorney who specialized in tort, criminal, and matrimonial law.  I became a solo practitioner in 1969.  During my practice in Troy, my practice was general, and my criminal practice included both defense and prosecution of a variety of matters, including capital cases.  I commenced a class action lawsuit against the then form of county government, and created the legal foundation for a new form of government, which was twice affirmed by the NY Court of Appeals.  I was appointed County Attorney and served as on a part time basis with a full time staff for 13 years.  I developed a practice successfully challenging real property tax assessments on commercial properties throughout upstate New York. Later, after moving my practice to Albany, I represented real estate investors in the purchase and refinance of commercial properties in New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Florida, and also represented the principals in corporate and personal matters.  For the past two decades I have acted as a co-trustee of the trusts created by the principals for their families, and also served as a director of a family foundation created by one of the principals. I have been admitted to practice in New York Courts, the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit,and the United States Supreme Court. I have served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and as appointed Trustee of the Supreme Court Library at Troy. I served as president of the New York County Attorney's Association for two terms.  I have lectured at New York State Bar Association seminar, and served both as counsel and consultant to serveral local governments in New York. I was a commissioned officer in the Army Reserves for eight years.   I have never practiced law in Florida.
