Mr. Galvan’s lawsuit asserts that he had be ... en an employee at UPS for over 30 years before his termination in January of 2017 for alleged “proven dishonesty”. Mr. Galvan’s lawsuit specifies that he drove UPS feeder trucks at the time of his termination. During trial, Mr. Galvan testified that his termination was a result of health and safety complaints, including a complaint about being assaulted and injured by another UPS employee at UPS, and other health and safety complaints for being made to drive his feeder truck under conditions that he felt were unsafe.

Former Farmers Insurance Employee Awarded $155.4 million verdict

The jury on Tuesday found that Farmers Group, Inc. and Farmers Insurance Exchange had retaliated against Andrew Rudnicki, a devoted and decorated employee of 37-years, who was months away from his anti ... cipated testimony in a case alleging claims under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (“FEHA”) (Coates v. Farmers). Fearful that his testimony would have shed light on inaction by Farmers, Farmers retaliated against Rudnicki and shamefully used him as a scapegoat in order to hide their own failure to address concerns Rudnicki raised on behalf of the eventual Coates plaintiffs that led to the Coates litigation. The jury agreed. On Tuesday, Rudnicki was awarded $5.4 million in compensatory damages. The jury also concluded that an officer, director or managing agent of at least one of the defendants acted with malice, oppression or fraud against Rudnicki, triggering a second phase of the trial. On Thursday, the punitive damages phase of the trial got underway. Following its conclusion, and within less than forty minutes, a jury awarded Rudnicki a groundbreaking punitive damages award of $150 million against Farmers Insurance Exchange and Farmers Group Inc

Former Staples Employee Wins $26.1 Million Age Discrimination Verdict

Nickel, a 64 year old man at the time of his termination, was employed by Corporate Express since August of 2002 as a facilities manager. Staples Contract and Staples Inc. acquired Corporate Express in ... 2008. For 9 years, Nickel received regularly positive reviews for performing his work in an exemplary manner. Because Corporate Express’ pay scale had been higher than the pay scale for employees hired by Staples, Nickel alleged in his complaint that his mangers noted that they needed to “get rid of” older, higher paid employees. Nickel’s complaint also explained how he became the regular butt of jokes at staff meetings and was referred to as “old coot” and “old goat.” Among the compelling evidence Shegerian presented during the trial was the fact that after Nickel refused to resign voluntarily when prompted to by a manager, he underwent a series of false accusations and increasing levels of harassment from co-workers and a manager, including being written up and suspended for “stealing,” after taking a bell pepper valued at 68 cents from the company cafeteria. Further, a receptionist had approached Nickel explaining she had been ordered by management to provide a false statement about Nickel’s conduct but she refused to do so. Regardless, Nickel was fired on July 29 of 2011. Shegerian was able to show that this termination was wrongful and had followed a series of discriminatory and harassing events. The result of the case was a $26,106,664.00 verdict by a Los Angeles jury.
