Patrick Joyner, a graduate student at the University of Florida, was seriously injured when a Mack tractor trailer made a left hand turn in front of his car on a lonely dark stretch of Highway 301 nort ... h of the town of Starke, Florida. Patrick suffered a severe fracture of his right ankle that required surgery. In March of 2007 a week long jury trial was conducted in Green Cove Springs, Florida. At the conclusion of the trial the jury found for the plaintiff and a final judgment was entered in the approximate amount of $400,000.00. In addition the court also ordered attorney fees to be awarded to the plaintiff and an additional award was entered in excess of $90,000.00 which was upheld on appeal
