OUTCOME: We won. I secured authorization of the cardiac catheterization for my client.

Claim was made for authorization of a cardiac catheterization procedure in connection with a compensable knee injury the claimant suffered at work. The insurance carrier denied responsibility for the c ... ardiac catheterization on the basis that the underlying claim was a knee injury, not a heart condition. I argued that the claimant's heart condition was preventing full recovery from her knee injury, in that she could not move forward with knee surgery until cleared by a cardiologist. The cardiologist could not clear the claimant for her surgery without the cardiac catheterization.
