Elder abuse and Drug possession
Jul 10, 2015OUTCOME: Probation Granted and no actual prison time served
The client was on probation for heroin possession and was tragically addicted. Things got so bad the client began stealing from an old man the client was taking care of. The client was caught, arres ... ted and charged with elder abuse. After bailing out the client got arrested a few weeks later on new felony drug charges. The client then had 3 different cases and was looking at years and years in prison. I was able to combine the cases together for purposes of sentencing and get the client into outpatient rehabilitation. I then was able to negotiate a deal where instead of going to prison or jail, the client would enter into an in-patient drug rehabilitation instead of going to prison. The thousands of dollars in fines were deemed satisfied by completing the rehabilitation. The outcome in this case was especially important because even though the evidence in these cases was heavily stacked against my client, hard work, diligence, creativity and convincing the court and the district attorneys office that if you solve the root of the problem, you can change people lives for the better instead of the justice system just throwing them away.
