When applying for jobs, how do I "pass" a background check? I was arrested for petty theft, but I completed a diversion program.

yes, it is in the records and will show up. Advise them of the arrest and say it was dismissed.

In NJ can a child at a specific age state he does not want to visit with one parent. Parents are separated not yet divorced

No. You should disclose the arrest and tell them the charge was dismissed.

I believe that Mr. Buckley is correct. You should be able to amend the final judgement citing a scrivner's error in the initial petition.
