also known as Jim Matulis
I am currently one of only 127 attorneys to be certified by The Florida Bar as an Expert in Intellectual Property Law. I am a Registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and I have been awarded the highest Attorney Peer Review Rating (AV) by Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethics.
I have extensive experience in counseling clients in all areas of intellectual property law transactions and business disputes, including serving as lead counsel in lawsuits involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, false advertising, internet domain name registrations, internet defamation and disclosure of trade secrets. Jim has represented clients in lawsuits and business negotiations involving "works of authorship" such as software, music, jewelry, fiction and nonfiction texts, videos, photographs, and sculptures. I have also assisted clients with the protection and enforcement of a number of processes and devices, ranging from consumer products, construction devices, explosives detection, boatlifts, and exercise equipment to "mad cow" detection devices, to name just a few. In addition to infringement cases, I handle disputes in a variety of business areas, including allegations of theft of trade secrets such as customer lists and technical know-how, breach of non-compete agreements, unfair competition, fraudulent business practices, disputes involving license agreements, and breach of contract.
My wife and have two lovely daughters. I enjoy coaching my daughters' soccer teams and swimming, biking, and enjoying the Tampa Bay area with my family.

"I have known Jim Matulis for well over a decade. When I have a challenging intellectual property issue, Jim is one of those to whom I first turn for a professional opinion. I have had occasion to be opposite Jim in a trademark litigation matter, and found him to be a zealous advocate for his client, and at the same time, a gentleman in every respect. I have also had occasion to hire Jim as an expert witness in an intellectual property litigation matter, and his testimony helped achieve a favorable result for my client. Jim brings a voice of reason and modulation to any dispute, and would prove to be a superlative mediator in contested matters, especially those involving patent, trademark, and copyright cases."
"I endorse this lawyer. In this complex area of law of intellectual property, only one lawyer comes to mind: James Matulis."
