In recent years, through legislative changes, Florida has replaced the term "child custody" for a more cooperative phrase "time sharing with the minor child." Child support is established by the Florida Legislature. Child support guidelines are calculated after the parties income is established. The Legislature lists what is considered income for purposes of establishing child support. Experience is important here. An attorney willing to do research to find the exception or the case on point and to make the argument to the court can make a huge difference in the amount of support ordered by the court.
