Luke Alter is a trial attorney focusing on complex business and commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts. He represents individuals and businesses in a broad range of matters, including contract disputes, real estate and land use matters, corporate disputes, tort claims, and other complex civil litigation.
Before entering private practice, Luke served for three years as an Assistant State Attorney for Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit, where he prosecuted felony cases from third degree to Life felonies, working primarily with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics team. As a prosecutor, Luke regularly appeared in court, conducted depositions, negotiated resolutions, litigated pretrial motions, and developed and implemented trial strategy. He tried numerous cases before judges and juries and obtained favorable verdicts in both jury and bench trials. His experience as a prosecutor provided him with substantial courtroom experience early in his career and continues to inform his approach to civil litigation and trial preparation.
After his time as a prosecutor, Luke went on to work at a local civil litigation firm where he gained experience working on a variety of complex business disputes including shareholder actions, limited liability company actions, and partnership disputes. He also focuses his practice on disputes involving commercial real estate, real property, and other complex commercial litigation disputes, including appeals.
Luke earned his Juris Doctor from the Florida State University College of Law, where he participated in the Children’s Advocacy Legal Clinic, received the Book Award in Executive Clemency and an Exceptional Service Award. During law school, he also gained experience as an extern for the General Counsel for Governor Ron DeSantis, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, and at Young Qualls P.A., a civil litigation firm in Tallahassee acting as general counsel to the Florida Tax Collectors Association.
Luke was born and raised in Long Island, New York to a family of ten. Both Luke’s parents, as well as his older sister and older brother, are all practicing attorneys. Luke attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, before attending Hofstra University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in finance.
Luke has been admitted to the bar in Florida and New York, and Middle District of Florida.
Luke enjoys spending as much of his time as he can outside and likes to fish, hunt, hike, and wakeboard and was previously an amateur kickboxer.
