Jennifer has been practicing business and tax law since she began her career in 2000. Prior to beginning her career, while attending Stetson University College of Law, she served as an Articles & Symposia editor on the Stetson Law Review. She began her career in the business and tax group at Akerman in Tampa, where she practiced until returning to Stetson University College of Law in 2004 to teach Legal Research & Writing for three years. While a member of Stetson’s faculty, she also coached Stetson’s tax moot court team in the Florida Bar’s national tax competition where her teams won back to back national championships in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, Jennifer returned to practice, joining the firm of Barnett Bolt and becoming a partner in the firm’s business and tax department where she practiced for the next eleven years.
Jennifer started her own firm in early 2019 but missed the camaraderie and daily interaction of practicing with her peers. When the opportunity to join Older Lundy Alvarez & Koch arose, she knew that her way of practicing – always striving to provide exceptional legal services to clients as efficiently as possible, being available and responsive to client needs, and meeting or exceeding clients’ expectations – would align with the firm’s philosophy and culture.
Jennifer represents companies, ranging from small, privately-owned businesses to large, national organizations, and individuals in all aspects of business. Her practice includes mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, entity formation and organization, shareholder agreements, operating agreements, partnership agreements, contract negotiations, commercial leases, commercial financing, and providing other business and tax advice to her clients. She also represents individuals and entities in all phases of U.S. federal income tax controversies, from audits to IRS appeals, and matters against the Florida Department of Revenue, including sales tax and reemployment tax audits and appeals.
In addition, Jennifer has significant experience in drafting premarital and postnuptial agreements and providing business and tax advice in divorce settlements due to her understanding of the tax consequences and implications of divorce and property settlements as well as business reorganizations. She also assists divorce counsel in structuring marital settlement agreements and the division of assets when there are complex business holdings or tax issues involved. Since 2004, Jennifer has authored the chapter, Tax Consequences of Divorce, which is published in two Florida Bar publications: Drafting Marriage contracts in Florida and Florida Dissolution of Marriage.
Jennifer is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and the Business Law, Tax Law, and Family Law Sections of the Florida Bar. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court. She has been named as “Legal Elite” in Florida Trend Magazine (2017), and “Super Lawyer” in the annual list of top attorneys in Florida by Super Lawyers Magazine (2018, 2019). In addition, she is rated AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Jennifer lives in Tampa with her husband, Joe, a professional musician, their two teenage daughters, and their two rescue German Shepherds.
