Your lawyer can speak to the witness. You "can" but it is very very risky to do so.

What happens to a civil lawsuit if it starts like a civil litigation but during discovery comes out that it is a criminal case??

The civil case continues. The state may or may not pursue the criminal court matter, that is up to them. Both can proceed at the same time.
I been subpoenaed for a written deposition but all the questions were sent with the subpoena . Can I answer them at home?

No. You appear for the court reporter. He or she reads the questions and youthen answer them.
