Matthew John Lavisky

Matthew J. Lavisky is a Senior Associate at Butler Pappas. Matt represents insurers in extra-contractual matters, coverage disputes, and first party property claims.  His practice includes defense of lawsuits for first party statutory "bad faith" and unfair claim settlement practices and for third party common law "bad faith."  Matt also handles declaratory judgment actions to resolve coverage disputes.  Additionally, Matt defends and advises insurers in first party property claims, including claims for hurricanes, sinkholes, collapse, and other property damage claims.

Matt is active in several organizations.  He is a member of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, the Federalist Society, the Christian Legal Society, and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.  He serves as chairman of the editorial board for the Trial Advocate Quarterly, FDLA's primary publication.  In 2013 Matt was awarded the James A. Dixon Young Lawyer of the Year Award by FDLA.

Matt received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Florida.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from Barry University.  Matt was a member of the Moot Court Honors Board at Barry University.  Matt also served as president of the Barry University chapter of the Federalist Society.

Matt is a member of the Florida Bar.  He is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle, Northern, and Southern Districts of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
