Paul Kenneth Donovan

Paul K. Donovan is a tax attorney and Certified Public Accountant whose tax-first practice, focused on real estate, serves clients nationwide from Delray Beach, Florida. For thirty years he has advised real estate developers, investors, funds, operating businesses, and the high-net-worth families behind them on the federal, state, and international tax issues that drive the economics of their structures — and he represents those same clients when their returns, structures, or positions come under examination.

He began his career in the Boston and New York offices of PwC, advising venture capital firms and real estate investment funds on structured transactions and fund-level tax planning, and performing tax due diligence on three REIT initial public offerings. He then built a transactional real estate, tax, and business practice in Massachusetts before relocating to Delray Beach in 2019.

The practice keeps tax planning, tax return preparation, and tax controversy under one practitioner: the attorney who plans the structure also signs the return and defends the position. Representative work includes multifamily acquisition, financing, development and sale throughout the Southeast; formation of private equity real estate funds; partnership tax counsel on a hotel company’s REIT IPO; FIRPTA and cross-border structuring in both directions; IRS audit defense, appeals, and U.S. Tax Court litigation; and service as Special Counsel to family-law attorneys on the tax consequences of high-net-worth divorce.
