It took me a while to fully understand how my family’s fight shaped the attorney I’ve become and the way I advocate for my clients. Now I understand that if my grandfather hadn’t been willing to sacrifice and to fight, not only would I not be the attorney or the man I am today, but probably wouldn’t even be here today.
In the 1960s, my grandfather lost everything to communism in Cuba — his businesses, his home, and the life he’d built with my grandmother. With literally nothing but the clothes on their backs — even my grandmother’s wedding ring was taken at the airport — they left for Spain, spending five years awaiting U.S. visas.
When the opportunity came, he again packed up my father, my uncles, and my grandmother, and left a secure corporate job and extended family in Madrid to start over in West Palm Beach. For more than the following decade, he worked multiple low-paying jobs in order to provide for his family.
He knew at the time that his sacrifice wasn’t just for his children but the future Martin generations. Today, among his six grandchildren are a doctor, three lawyers, a psychologist, and a television producer— living proof that his fight was worth it.
That fight inspires me every day. It’s why I fight so hard for my clients and never take their trust for granted. Its why I feel so deeply that people ought to get the advocacy they not only expect but rightly deserve. Fighting for you is the least I can do to honor my grandfather’s legacy, sacrifice, and most of all, his fight.
Thanks to him, I was born and raised in Palm Beach County. I attended Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and from there, I attended Florida State University and earned a degree in economics. I decided to cap off my educational journey by moving to Northeast and attending New England Law | Boston where I earned my JD.
During law school, I worked in corporate lobbying and secured a job doing regulatory affairs for a large corporation. Realizing the cold is better to visit than live in, and that corporate law was better idea than reality, I returned to Florida with my fiancé and golden retriever—and couldn’t be happier.
