In 2014, Mr. Higdon took his client’s whistleblower claim to trial, and the jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Higdon’s client for $565,000. Mr. Higdon’s client was a superintendent who was respo ... nsible for digging retention ponds just off of Interstate 95. The company for which Mr. Higdon’s client worked refused to put the required safety barriers in place that prevent cave-ins. His client complained about the hazardous and unlawful work conditions for weeks, and he finally called OSHA to report the hazards so that they would be fixed. After the company discovered that Mr. Higdon’s client had reported the company’s behavior to OSHA, he was fired and was unable to find work for a very long time. The jury members personally thanked Mr. Higdon after the trial for making sure that his client received justice.

Mr. Higdon achieved a jury verdict of over $2,298,000 for a client of his who was the victim of discrimination due to her pregnancy. Mr. Higdon’s client and her husband had been trying to have childre ... n for many years, and they finally received the wonderful news that they would be parents. After her employer learned that she was pregnant, the company significantly reduced her pay. While Mr. Higdon’s client was placed on bed rest for a few days because of her pregnancy, her employer decided to terminate her employment. Just weeks after her employment was terminated, she learned that she wasn’t having one baby, she was having triplets. As the primary wage earner in her family, she was financially devastated by the loss of her employment, and the emotional toll that it caused was far worse. It took the jury less than 2 hours to return the verdict and send a message to the company that its outrageous behavior would not be tolerated.
