R. Max Lohman, Jr. was born and raised in southern Indiana, just north of Louisville, Kentucky. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the Nuclear Power Training Program. After becoming “nuclear qualified” and attaining the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class (MM2/E-5), Max received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Upon graduation he selected Naval Aviation and after receiving his “Wings of Gold” Max transitioned to rotary wing aviation where he was qualifed as an aircraft commander in the SH-60B Seahawk and as a Functional Check Pilot (squadron level test pilot). Max was deployed twice to the Persian Gulf where he amassed over 1400 total flight hours, with ~600 hours of combat flight time and more than 500 shipboard landings. His sea tour came to end with his selection as the squadron and wing "Pilot of the Year" and culminated in selection as the 1999 Naval Helicopter Association “Pilot of the Year.” For his shore tour Max returned to the Naval Academy as a military professor where he taught Naval Warfare Strategy and Tactics. While teaching at the academy, Max attended the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree. Subsequently, in 2003 Max moved to Palm Beach County and began his legal career, choosing to focus his practice in the area of local government/municipal law. Max is rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell, is a Florida Bar Board Certified Specialist in City, County and Local Government Law and has more than ten years of experience in this field. Max currently serves as the City Attorney for the City of Palm Beach Gardens, the City of Delray Beach, the Town Attorney for the Town of Lantana and General Counsel for the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority. Max also serves as the Special Magistrate for the Towns of Glen Ridge and Cloud Lake.
In 2014, Max founded the Lohman Law Group, P.A. to meet the ever growing need for expansive, comprehensive legal representation from a single law firm that represents only the interests of local governments, while providing the legal experience and resources of much larger firms that often represent clients whose interests conflict with those of the public sector. Max strives to provide an “in-house” legal department experience at a cost that makes economic sense and represents a real value to the firm’s clients.

"On several projects, I have had the pleasure of working with Max Lohman when my client has had matters in one of his client's jurisdictions. Max always shows a level of reasonableness for resolving the issue, while still making sure his client's interests are protected. I strongly endorse Max for his work representing local governments in South Florida."
