Matthew Haynes was born on Long Island, New York. His family moved to Jupiter, Florida in 1980.
Following his graduation from Jupiter High School, Mr. Haynes attended Florida State University. There, he received a Bachelors of Science in Accounting.
After graduating from college, Ms. Haynes attended Stetson University College of Law. Stetson is typically ranked as one of the best law schools in the U.S.A for trial practice.
During his time at Stetson, Mr. Haynes was awarded the Law I, Law II, and Law III academic scholarships. Further, Mr. Haynes earned the American Jurisprudence Book Award. This award represents the highest grade on a law school exam.
In addition, Mr. Haynes was selected for membership on Stetson's Law Review. The Law Review is a scholarly magazine. Members are invited based on their grades. Once invited, students must compete for a limited number of Law Review openings in an anonymous writing competition. Law Review members are selected based on their writing ability and analytical thinking.
In 1993, Mr. Haynes graduated cum laude ("With Honors") from Stetson.
Since graduating, Mr. Haynes has focused his practice on civil trial litigation.
Towards that end, Matthew Haynes has tried (as lead counsel), cases involving: Wrongful Death; Automobile Negligence; Uninsured Motorist; Under-Insured Motorist; Negligent Security; Premises Liability; Wrongful Termination; Civil RICO; Breach of Fiduciary Duty; Freedom of Speech; Whistle-Blowers; Securities Violations; and, Breach of Contract.
Indeed, Matthew Haynes has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Litigation by The Florida Bar. To put that in perspective, out of approximately 80,000 attorneys licensed to practice by The Florida Bar, less than 1,500 have been Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Civil Trial Litigation -- less than 2%.
Board Certification requires the applicant to document significant jury trial experience. In addition, applicants are evaluated by fellow members of the Florida Bar, judges, and opposing counsel. Finally, applicants must pass a comprehensive written examination.
In addition to his active trial practice, Mr. Haynes has testified as an expert witness, and has been selected by fellow attorneys to serve as an Arbitrator to evaluate and resolve competing claims -- including wrongful death.
Finally, Mr. Haynes has lectured -- both nationally and internationally. Specifically, Matthew Haynes was invited to lecture at The Peking University College of Law in Beijing, China. There, he spoke on the Role of Jury Trials in The Civil Justice System. In that capacity, he was one of the first Westerners ever invited to watch a jury trial in China.
Currently, Mr. Haynes is often retained by other attorneys and law firms to assist them in presenting larger cases to juries.
On a personal note, Mr. Haynes is married with 3 children -- all boys. He enjoys SCUBA diving, fishing, baseball, and playing guitar.
