Jessica Kemah Morine Extra

Jessica Extra was listed as defense counsel for LA Fitness in my civil case and appeared as counsel of record during the critical period following my attorneys’ withdrawal. Although she was not the primary attorney communicating with me, her role as counsel of record meant she was on notice of the pr...ocedural posture of the case, including serious defects in service and notice that were occurring after the withdrawal. During this period, the defense proceeded as if I had been properly served using an email address I never designated or registered with the court, and using a physical address that did not appear in the Clerk’s case management system and was later shown to be incorrect. Certified mail sent to that address was returned, and I repeatedly raised these issues in writing. Despite this, the record was never corrected, and the defense continued to rely on certifications and assumptions of service that were later contradicted by Court Operations and the Inspector General, who confirmed that no audit trail or system logs existed to verify service. As counsel of record, Ms. Extra had a professional obligation to ensure that representations made to the court were accurate once defects in service and notice were known. By remaining silent while the case proceeded on an unverified and defective service framework, she participated in allowing a fundamentally flawed procedural record to stand. This contributed to my case being dismissed without a meaningful opportunity to be heard. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Jessica Extra to anyone who expects opposing counsel to respect procedural integrity, fairness, or the duty to correct the record when it is known to be inaccurate.
