Gary Farmer has spent almost his entire career fighting for the rights of consumers, fair and just compensation for victims, and the protection of the civil justice system and full access to courts.
Gary developed an interest in law when he was in the first grade and his father was attending law school; he would take the bus to the law school and sit in the back of his father's classes waiting for a ride home. After following in his father's footsteps and attending the same law school Gary began his legal career with an insurance defense firm where he gained invaluable knowledge and experience in trial law before moving into plaintiff's work.
Over the past decade, Mr. Farmer has been at the forefront of high-profile consumer litigation in Florida and across the country: creating new law and causes of actions for subscribers wrongfully denied coverage by their HMO’s; litigating the “Butterfly Ballot” and absentee voting cases to the Florida Supreme Court during the infamous 2000 election litigation; and representing patients, consumers and employees wronged by various corporations, hospitals and insurance companies' deceptive trade practices. In the past few years Mr. Farmer served as lead counsel in some of the largest qui tam recoveries in the country's history involving off-label marketing of pharmaceutical drugs (Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson). He has consistently sought to protect the rights of consumers and helped them achieve redress for financial wrongs and bodily injury.
In addition to his work in the courtroom, Mr. Farmer has devoted thousands of hours serving as a board member, officer and in 2012-2013 as President of the Florida Justice Association (FJA), the state's largest and most effective consumer protection organization. For the past several years, he spent six to seven weeks a year volunteering as a lobbyist in Tallahassee for the FJA, fighting proposed laws that would limit the Constitutional right to access the court, impose limitations on claims, allow for insurance companies to act in bad faith, and less consumer protections. The FJA has recognized Farmer for his efforts by awarding him the EAGLE Legend Award, the EAGLE Top Recruiting Champion Award and the Gold EAGLE Award.
Through it all, Mr. Farmer's motivation has been consistent – protect society the way he would want his wife Stacey and his daughters Hannah and Abigail protected. His devotion to the law is second only to his devotion to his family, without whom his life would be incomplete.
Mr. Farmer has been profiled in The Best Lawyers In America and rated AV by his professional peers through the Martindale-Hubbell © Peer Review Rating system. The South Florida Legal Guide has selected Mr. Farmer to be recognized as a "Top Lawyer" for his work in class actions. Additionally, Mr. Farmer has been selected as a 2014 Florida Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer magazine.
Mr. Farmer is a member of the Florida Bar, and is appointed to the Code & Rules of Evidence Committee, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida. He is a board member of the Broward County Justice Association and a Past President of the Florida Justice of Association. He is also a proud member of the American Association for Justice and it's Leadership Forum and board member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, South Florida Chapter.
