Judith Nelson is a shareholder of Nelson & Nelson, P.A. She earned her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979 and her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1982. Early in her career, she served as panel counsel for Travelers Insurance and later as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami.
In 1986, Governor Bob Graham appointed Judith to the bench as a Judge of Compensation Claims. She served Dade and Monroe Counties for 15 years, receiving reappointments from Governors Robert Martinez and Lawton Chiles. After retiring from the bench in 2001, she became a Supreme Court-certified mediator and has since successfully resolved thousands of workers’ compensation, personal injury, employment, labor, and commercial disputes. She also serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association, including its Commercial Panel and Mediation Special Program Panel.
Judith co-founded the Victory Center for Children with Autism and Related Disabilities with her husband, Barry Nelson, in 2000. Her community service and professional achievements have earned her numerous honors, including the Woman of Valor Award, the Spectrum Award, and the Steel Service Award. She has served on the boards of the University of Miami Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and the Friends of 440 Scholarship Fund, and currently serves on Florida's Workers’ Compensation Statewide Judicial Nominating Commission.
