James M Shaw

James Michael Shaw, Jr. is a Senior Associate at Butler Pappas. James practices with the firm's extracontractual, coverage, and liability departments. In addition to litigation and consultation relating to coverage and bad faith, James also represents insurance intermediaries (insurance agents and/or insurance brokers) in defense of error-and-omission claims. James joined the firm in January 2007. Prior to joining the firm, James devoted his practice to the representation of airlines and aviation-related businesses and insurers in defense of aviation claims.

James graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served on the University of Miami Law Review as Articles and Comments Editor. James has published articles on topics as diverse as insurance-intermediary liability, insurer bad faith, and Constitutional law. He is also a member of the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law-school graduates in the top ten percent of their classes, and a member of Phi Delta Phi, an international legal fraternity serving as the University of Miami's honors fraternity. James graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Music Composition from Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan, where he was a member of the Honors College. In 1999, Oakland University also presented him with the Undergraduate Distinguished Achievement Award. James is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
