Broward County vs. Ft. Lauderdale Owner
Mar 01, 2014OUTCOME: sorry, covered in " case details".
I represented Blackstone which owned a 388 room Hilton Hotel at the Fort Lauderdale Airport. Broward County sought to take the property for its runway expansion program against the owners will. I defen ... ded the taking, retaining the former Acting Director of the FAA for the entire U.S. we legally and factually defended and concurrently prepared a valuation so we were ready on all fronts. I settled the matter comprehensively for $62,000,000.00 plus additional very valuable non_monetary concessions (e.g.- rent free extended possession of hotel after being paid so the client can operate through the season with very little overhead and dramatically increased profits. This resulted in one very happy client, great personal satisfaction in light of the very heavy responsibility and complexity of case. further, as a result, I was nominated by the Daily Business Review and made it to becoming a Finalist for its annual Most Effective Lawyer Award in Real Estate (note: this is the Second time I was named a finalist for the Award -first time was representing Bridgestone in 2006). Case was completed in 1st quarter of 2014
