Extreme caution

Nancy Haas served as Guardian ad Litem in my family court case. I am writing this review based on my direct experience with her actions in that role. During her involvement, my child was denied contact with extended family, including cousins, aunts, and grandparents. Most disturbingly, my child ...was not allowed to see a terminally ill aunt who had played a significant role in helping raise her. This decision caused irreversible emotional harm to both my child and our family. Throughout the proceedings, Ms. Haas repeatedly questioned my mental fitness under oath despite having no medical or psychological qualifications and without any supporting evaluations. These statements were made multiple times in court and had serious consequences. Ms. Haas insisted on the use of a specific, closed network of therapists, evaluators, and testing providers, while refusing to allow other qualified professionals. In my experience, this resulted in unnecessary delays and substantial financial burden. I was also deeply concerned that multiple failed alcohol tests by the opposing party were not meaningfully addressed, while my own consistently negative drug tests appeared to be disregarded. As a parent, I found this alarming from a child-safety perspective. Overall, my experience was that Ms. Haas’s involvement escalated conflict, prolonged litigation, and placed extreme emotional and financial strain on a family already in crisis. My child appeared to be treated as part of a process rather than as a human being. Anyone considering this Guardian ad Litem should proceed with extreme caution and carefully evaluate whether this approach truly serves the best interests of their child.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
