Originally from Lauderhill, Florida, I am a South Florida native. I received my undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the University of Florida, and my law degree from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University - Bloomington. During law school, I focused on my love for being in the courtroom, and decided to participate in activities which allowed me to foster my passion for litigation and criminal defense. During law school, I completed internships with the Miami-Dade, Bloomington, and Philadelphia Public Defender Offices, along with my involvement in Moot Court and a Law Journal.
Following my graduation, I began my career at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. As a junior prosecutor starting in the Misdemeanor domestic violence unit, I was the first in my class to secure a conviction and among the first in my class to be promoted to both the Juvenile and Felony divisions. As a felony prosecutor, I handled thousands of cases, and tried cases ranging from Narcotics Trafficking and Attempted Murder to Home Invasion Robbery and Organized Scheme to Defraud. Eventually, I was chosen as one of a select group of prosecutors to join the Career Criminal/Robbery Division - prosecuting the most violent repeat offenders in Miami. The cases I dealt with were generally serious offenders, with extremely serious cases: mostly Robbery, Carjacking, and Murder (and attempts). Almost every case involved significant minimum mandatories - as such, most cases went to trial.
After leaving the Miami State Attorney's Office, I initially worked at a small litigation firm doing complex civil and business litigation. In that role, I worked on everything from Insurance Disputes, to Condo/HOA regulations, to Litigation involving mixed-use condo/hotels, to breach of contract and Federal cases involving Aviation law and oil liens.
After working in the civil field, I turned back to criminal defense. I became the Senior Criminal Attorney for a prominent Broward County firm. In that capacity, I spearheaded the firm’s Criminal Department, handling cases from DUI and Domestic Violence to Murder, Drug Trafficking, and Federal Healthcare Fraud - from intake through trial. Additionally, I used my civil litigation experience to assist clients in various civil litigation matters, including asset forfeitures, nuisance abatement hearings, internal affairs investigations (for government employees), Marchman Acts, and Domestic Violence Injunctions.
After several years working as the Senior Criminal Attorney, I left to open the Law Offices of Sean Marcus, PLLC. Using my years of experience gained working both as a criminal defense attorney and as a prosecutor, I know how the State and Federal Government build their cases, and how best to take those cases apart and poke holes in the prosecution’s theory of the case. I use my years of work on thousands of cases, to provide the most aggressive and thorough defense to fight for each of my clients.
When I started this firm, I decided that I wanted a practice that focuses on the client's needs and goals - that focuses on what is going on in my client's life, and what decisions are best given their current situation. I take great pride in my work - whether I'm working on a minor possession of marijuana charge, a Federal Healthcare Fraud case, a DV Injunction, or an eviction. I believe that if you trust me to handle your case, you deserve the best from me. Period. I am dedicated to making sure I get the best results for each and every client, focusing on each client’s very specific and unique needs and goals. And if you feel that I haven't lived up to your expectations, I want you to call me directly, on my cell at. I look forward to working with you.
