When I decided to divorce my spouse, I interviewed several divorce attorneys in Orlando. My spouse was none to pleased at the prospect of a divorce and I knew that I had to find an attorney that would robustly represent me and basically be willing to stand up to her and her attorney. After my first meeting with Luis Basagoitia, red flags should have been raised at the haphazard way his little office looked, not to mention the fact that I never so much as saw a receptionist at any of my meetings with him. Nonetheless, Luis convinced me that he would stand up to any and all efforts from the opposing attorney and that I would have nothing to worry about. With that, I agreed to hire him. I paid him several thousand dollars, as requested. He filed for my divorce in Orange County, had the papers served to my spouse and then at the very first meeting with the opposing attorney, he shows up with his glasses hanging off his nose, because one leg had broken. After they submitted their demands, much to my surprise, he completely folded, tried to convince me to do everything that they wanted and pay alimony (she had worked our entire marriage). Luis had difficulty reading the paperwork that was submitted at the hearing due to his broken glasses. Feeling that I had been turned over to the wolves on a silver platter, I refused to bow to the demands and ultimately left the meeting. I told him that I would go back to the marital home before I gave her everything that I had. Luis knew that my long time job of 28 years was ending in 7 months, due to a company layoff. His promises to help me were all empty. When I felt that he was only there to collect a "paycheck", I ended my services with him and found someone who had the internal fortitude to represent me with some integrity. Of course, Luis was able to document that all of the money that I had given him was used and I did not receive a penny back from him. By the way, a very equitable and fair settlement was eventually reached with my former spouse. I cannot recommend Mr. Basagoitia after my experience.
