The reason I hired Elaine Silver after meeting with several attorneys is that she did not treat the divorce as a contest that "my side" was trying to win, and she did not promise me it would be easy and I would get everything I wanted. Instead, she was respectful of the emotional difficulty of dividi...ng a family, and she sought a settlement that was fair to my non-working ex-wife while also safeguarding my long-term financial independence. Elaine's reassurance helped cool me off when my ex-wife was being particularly inflammatory or uncooperative, and she had a wealth of interpersonal and emotional expertise for handling difficult negotiations, in addition to her legal expertise. All of this allowed us to reach a settlement without requiring the indignity and expense of a trial. Elaine is upfront and transparent about her fees; they are not the lowest around, but they are fair, and I never felt surprised or ambushed by a fee I didn't expect. She is not the type to bill you for a one-sentence e-mail or for picking up the phone for a thirty-second status update. I am happy with my choice of Elaine Silver to represent me in my divorce, and I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in keeping his divorce as civil, respectful, and amicable as possible. Update: Elaine was wonderful during the divorce process, but also afterward when I have had questions about how certain parts of my divorce agreement apply to new circumstances or how to handle certain curveballs thrown by my ex-wife. Her advice is always calming, de-escalating, and focused on the best outcomes for my children. Her fees continue to be reasonable. I am not happy that I have had need to consult with a lawyer even after the divorce was finalized, but I am happy that that lawyer was Elaine Silver.

When I first met Elaine I was attempting to handle the divorce on my own. I didn't realize it at the time that my blood pressure was climbing to unsafe levels. It was only after a yearly physical that my doctor told me that my blood pressure had gone up 40 points. He almost put me on blood pressur...e medicine. He told me to go home and eat more fruits and vegetables and to come back in a month. The next day I hired Elaine Silver to be my divorce attorney. My blood pressure went back down 40 points to the normal levels. My doctor thought it was fruits and vegetables....I know it was Elaine. Divorces by nature are very difficult. They reek from emotions. Elaine is very good at removing the emotional component and helping the client stay on track. She is an excellent collaborative lawyer but can also deal with an adversarial lawyer like my ex had. She is an excellent advisor of different options, approaches, etc but she is also smart enough to realize that she works for the client...not the other way around. I can't say that I always agreed with everything she said but most of the time she was spot on with the right approach. If I could give Elaine more than five stars I would. That is the difference that she has made in my life. I was dreading going through the divorce proceedings but she really helped to take the burden off of me and just ride it through to completion.
