Black Rock City LLC v. Pershing County Board of Commissioners

OUTCOME: Negotiated resolution protecting first amendment rights, and vindicated validity of agreement before the Ninth Circuit.

As part of Gross Belsky Alonso LLP's long-standing representation of Burning Man, the firm successfully resolved a dispute with Pershing County, Nevada, the county in which the Burning Man event is hel ... d on federal land within the county. The firm brought and settled a lawsuit against Pershing County, resulting in a ten-year agreement addressing the cost and provision of Pershing County law enforcement at the event, and protecting the First Amendment rights of event participants. The Ninth Circuit subsequently overturned a judge's order purporting to invalidate the settlement. The firm was also instrumental in securing passage of a bill by the Nevada Legislature authorizing Pershing County to exempt Burning Man from regulation under Nevada state and county laws governing permitting of outdoor assemblies.

OUTCOME: $310 million settlement

Gross Belsky Alonso LLP was appointed by the court as Chair of the Executive Committee for the indirect-purchaser plaintiffs in a nationwide class action for price-fixing against the leading manufactur ... ers of computer memory. On January 17, 2014, the Court granted preliminary approval of settlements that create a $310 million fund for consumers who purchased computers and other products containing DRAM. The hearing on final approval of the settlement is scheduled for June 25, 2014.

OUTCOME: $1 billion settlement

In a class action against LCD manufacturers alleging a global conspiracy to fix the prices on LCD screens, Gross Belsky Alonso LLP, together with co-counsel, secured final court approval of settlements ... totaling over $1 billion on behalf of purchasers of laptop computers, computer monitors, and televisions. This is one of the largest consumer antitrust recoveries ever obtained.
