Replied last January 26, 2017Thank you for submitting your comments. It helps to have constructive criticism to ensure I am doing my job well. I believe it is important to point to certain inaccuracies in this client's review. Any delays that occurred in this client's case were due solely because certain documentation was not provided in a timely manner by the client. Because the case depended entirely on substantiating the client's income, the burden was on the client to provide the requested financial documents within a certain deadline. I always notified the client long before the deadline of what was being requested and several times, however, the client would ignore the deadlines and instead, would show up the day of his hearing with a huge stack of documents to be sorted and reviewed. This caused his case to be delayed and hearings to be continued several times. Every time a new hearing was scheduled that I had to attend, I had to charge for my time. I charge a flat rate so if the hearing would take more than the usual hour, I did not charge the client additional fees. For a case that was not resolved for more than a year because of delays caused by the client, my fee is more than fair and reasonable. Had I charged on an hourly basis the fee would have been much higher. A similar case would have taken half of the time and cost half of the price. Additionally, at no time did I ever suggest the client agree to an offer that he did not agree to. One of my roles as an attorney is to explain to a client what their legal options are and the legal ramifications of each option. I am always available to provide guidance and feedback but the client has the ultimate decision. I do apologize if you did not get what you expected, but I try to do my best.
