Stuart Fraser Williams

Prior to entering private practice Stuart clerked for the Honorable Ed Carnes, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Stuart is a member of The Florida Bar and the Federal Bar Association, Jacksonville Chapter.  He is admitted to practice before all Florida courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida.

Prior to joining Tanner Bishop, Stuart was an associate at Holland & Knight, LLP.  While there, he was selected from several hundred candidates as that firm’s Most Valuable Pro-Bono Associate for 2005, primarily for his work in the successful appeal in the matter of Jean v. Dorelien, 431 F.3d 776 (11th Cir. 2005).   Jean v. Dorelien was an appeal from the dismissal of claims brought in the Southern District of Florida pursuant to the Torture Victims Protection Act, the Alien Tort Claims Act, and FUFTA.  He also won that firm’s Opening Doors for Children Award for his work with disadvantaged youth in the Jacksonville community and his work as co-coordinator of a Boy Scouts of America Law Explorers Troup.

Stuart earned his law degree from Florida State University where he graduated 3rd in a class of 251 students. While earning his law degree, he served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Robert L. Hinkle, United States District Judge; served as a Graduate Fellow in the United States Central Intelligence Agency, Office of General Counsel Honors Program; served as Executive Editor of the Florida State University Law Review; was a member of the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law; and was a member of Florida State's Moot Court team, winning second place at Pace University’s prestigious national environmental law moot court competition.  Among other awards, Stuart received six Book Awards, the Law Review Meritorious Service Award and was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi.

Prior to practicing law, Stuart worked as the program coordinator for a five county public health care services contract through the State of Florida Department of Health, and provided contract management consulting for a federal healthcare block grant managed by the City of Jacksonville.  Stuart served in the U.S. Army overseas in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the first Gulf War.
