Worst professional experience ever

I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but after my experience I feel obligated to warn others. In December 2024, I contacted Ed Macafee’s firm regarding what I believed to be a strong case. I had placed a vehicle into a rental fleet with a business owner in Atlanta under a contract requiring hi...m to properly manage and care for the vehicle. Instead, my vehicle ended up in Florida without my knowledge or permission, being used by individuals who were later connected to a crime ring that the Atlanta DA is currently prosecuting for grand theft. The situation involved multiple serious issues. The business owner who had possession of my vehicle forged my signature on official paperwork, allegedly with the assistance of a notary public who notarized the fraudulent signature. I know this because I later obtained the actual documents from the tow yard in Florida, which clearly show the notarized paperwork tied to the forged signature. The tow yard then accepted that fraudulent paperwork and released my vehicle without my authorization. When I initially contacted them trying to locate my car, they told me it had been released to an insurance company, which later turned out to be completely false. The vehicle was ultimately released based on the forged documents. In other words, this situation involved multiple parties who could potentially be liable, including the business owner, the notary who notarized the fraudulent document, and the tow yard that released the vehicle without proper verification. Ed agreed to take the case on a 30% contingency basis and assured me he would help pursue it. For 10 months, the only updates I received from the office were that they were “trying to serve the guy.” At one point I even flew from Seattle to Atlanta myself and went directly to the business location involved to try to gather information. Then, out of nowhere, I received a text message from Ed saying there was nothing he could do because “all the folks are gone.” That was the extent of the explanation after nearly a year of waiting. No real update. No strategy discussion. No guidance on next steps. I understand Ed primarily handles personal injury cases, but if a case requires actual investigation and persistence rather than a quick settlement, that was not my experience here. If you are looking for an attorney who will fight for you when things get complicated, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
