The minor was entitled to survivor's benefits from Cal-PERS, but the agency initially offered substantially less than I considered the minor was owed. Through strenuous negotiations, I increased the s ... ettlement amount from a lump sum of $595,000 to $9,637 per month for the entire lifetime of the minor. This amount is adjusted by a minimum of 2% per annum, and, based upon the minor's age at the time of settlement, is worth $6,939,000.
