Paul L. Groth

I began my legal career in 1986 in Georgia as a District Attorney for the State of Georgia, where I gained valuable trial experience prosecuting both misdemeanors and felonies. In 1997, I entered the private sector as in-house counsel for one of the largest insurance companies in the country, and applied the trial skills I learned as a District Attorney to defending both insureds and the insurer in suits arising under automobile and homeowner’s policies.

In June 2007, I joined Nikolai Makarenko, Jr. to form Groth, Makarenko, Kaiser and Eidex’s predecessor firm Groth & Makarenko. With my experience trying more than 300 cases, both civil and criminal, before juries in the State of Georgia, I am a well-respected, successful litigator fully capable of protecting my client’s best interests, whether the ultimate resolution of the case is via alternative dispute resolution or trial. My practice focuses on auto, general liability, premises liability and insurance coverage issues.

My practice focuses on civil litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels. I am admitted to practice before all state courts in Georgia, as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. I am a member of the Board of the Federal Defender Program, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute. I am a former board member of the Federal Defender Program, a past President of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and served as Co-Chairperson of the Insurance Law Institute from 2009 to 2019. In 2014, I was appointed to the State Bar of Georgia’s Insurance Coverage Committee. I am a member of the GDLA, Atlanta Claims Association and CLM. I hold an “AV” peer-reviewed rating from Martindale Hubbell. I have been recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers.

I am a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and serve as a senior neutral with Sugarloaf ADR. In 2024 ALM/The Daily Report named me as one of the top 3 Mediators in Atlanta.
