While on duty in a marked CHP patrol vehicle, plaintiff Martin Nunes was stopped when defendant Tiffany Coverdale rear-ended him, pushing his vehicle into a snowbank. The CHP collision report cited Cov ... erdale for violating Vehicle Code § 22350. Liability was uncontested. Defendant’s negligence caused permanent cervical spine injuries, chronic headaches, reduced range of motion, and interference with his ability to perform CHP duties and daily activities. Initially, the insurance company offered $1,000 to settle the claim. While workers’ compensation covered some expenses, it did not address his full injuries and losses. After retaining Strongin, LLP, medical documentation showed $45,231 in past medical specials, a 5% whole person impairment, and the need for future radiofrequency ablation. We successfully retrieved the full policy limits on behalf of Officer Nunes.

Bartlett v. The Bicycle Casino

The decedent was playing poker at the Bicycle Casino when he suffered a cardiac arrest. Other patrons at the casino immediately came to his aid and began to render CPR. Shortly thereafter, Casino secur ... ity intervened, stopping bystander CPR, and waited 7 minutes before allowing CPR to resume. By that time, the paramedics had arrived. Although the decedent survived, the neurological damage she suffered due to the lack of oxygen lead to the complete an irreversible loss of brain function, and a decision was made to an a half weeks later to take him off life support and allow him to pass away peacefully. The attorneys for the casino claimed that Security acted reasonably. The Casino argued that security left several bystanders at the decedent's side who were medically trained and CPR certified. The Casino asked that liability be assigned to the purported "medically trained" bystanders. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, the decedent's daughter, on all causes of action — finding the Casino 100% responsible for the decedent's death.
