Christopher K. Middleton, Esq. is founding partner of Cox, Rodman & Middleton, LLC. Christopher graduated from Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. While in high school, he was a standout athlete in football and wrestling: earning State Honors. He later attended Savannah State University where he graduated cum laude with dual degrees in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations & Advertisement and English Literature & Language.
While attending Savannah State University, Middleton was heavily involved with various student organizations as well as the campus administration. Because of his reputation for professionalism and fairness, he was later elected Chief Justice of the Student Government Association. Middleton held this position until graduation. Middleton was also a student athlete playing defensive line and linebacker for the Savannah State University Tigers. He was a member of the defensive unit that led the nation in total defense and rushing defense to become the top-rated Division II defense team in the nation in 1998. Middleton later received the prestigious Defensive Player of the Year Award. In 2002, Middleton also received the President’s Second Mile Award which is the university’s highest award given to a graduating senior who exemplifies stellar and meritorious character and values in both leadership and community service. In that same year, his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, received co-organization of the year honors for their commitment to strengthening the campus and the community.
Legal Experience
After graduating from Savannah State University, Middleton began working as a Speech Writer and assistant to former Mayor, the Honorable Floyd Adams, Jr. While serving in this capacity he studied politics and city government. He also learned about the philosophy of servant leadership as he addressed the concerns of citizens daily.
Middleton later attended Vermont Law School. While there Middleton was a member of the Student Services Committee, VLS Diversity Committee, SBA Finance Committee, Student Activity Committee and the Pro Bono Committee. Needless to say, Middleton continued to be active and engaged in college life. Because of his reputation and work ethic, he was elected as Senator of the Student Bar Association and served in this capacity until graduation. At graduation, he received the prestigious Alumni Contribution Award for his commitment to the institution, the students, and the community. He later returned to Savannah, Georgia where he began his professional legal career as an assistant public defender for the Eastern Judicial Circuit. He quickly advanced to the following positions: Senior Trial Team Leader, Major Crimes Division Litigator, Division Chief and Interim Chief Public Defender. While working at the Public Defender’s Office, Middleton resolved over 10,000 cases and conducted over 30 Major Crime Jury Trials.
Activities and Outreach
Aside from courtroom litigation, Middleton also serves in the capacity of Pro Tem Judge for the City of Savannah. Middleton also served on various community boards and is currently active with numerous organizations such as the Citizens Advisory Board for the Metropolitan Planning Commission; Chatham-Savannah Citizens Advocacy; The Savannah Chapter of the 100; Savannah Bar Association Executive Committee; The Port City Bar Association and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Middleton is committed to the principles of servant leadership and strengthening the community through advocacy and collaborative partnering. As a result of his dedication, he has been the recipient of various awards such as the prestigious Justice Benham Award from the State Bar of Georgia, the Robbie Robinson Award from the Savannah Bar Association, the Leader Award from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the Community Leader Award from Savannah Youth City, Inc. Middleton is a legal scholar that places strong emphasis on client-centered representation, professionalism and community outreach.
