Denethris Barnes is a native Savannah, Georgia. Denethris obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Spanish from Armstrong Atlantic State University. Since a child, Denethris has always wanted to be an attorney so the decision to enter law school was an easy one. Denethris attended law school at Savannah Law School in Savannah, Georgia. She joined the Savannah Law Review and eventually became the Executive Editor of law review. Denethris also was a member and competed on the Mock Trial and Moot Court teams, becoming Chief Justice of Savannah Law School’s Moot Court.
In addition to the scholastic clubs Denethris was involved in, she made it her duty to service several community service clubs. Denethris was the Vice President of the Savannah Law chapter of the National Women’s Law Student Organization and held the positions of Secretary and Vice President of the Black Law Students Association. Denethris also excelled academically. Denethris was a recipient of the John E. Ryan merit scholarship. She graduated in the top of her class as the Salutatorian of the full-time class at Savannah Law School and obtained the honor of joining the Order of the Oak, an honorary academic society created to recognize dedication to the meticulous study of the law. Savannah Law School bestows this award and accompanying walking stick to distinguished members of the class who earn the highest scholarly record according to their official class rank. Denethris also earned the CALI Award, an award for receiving the highest grade in an academic course, for Legal Writing 1 and 2, Civil Procedure 2, Business Organizations, Sales and Secured Transactions, Electronic Discovery, and Cyber Security.
In addition to her academic success, during her time at Savannah Law School, Denethris worked as a research assistant for Professor Kellyn McGee, interned at Georgia Legal Services, and worked as a Client Care Coordinator at The Manely Firm, P.C.
Growing up in a large family, Denethris learned the importance of the family unit and will continue to put families first by working toward positive resolutions as an attorney with The Manely Firm, P.C.
